This good humour led to his conversation being, not a monologue, but genuine communication. O'Sullivan re¬marks: "He watched his listener carefully, waited for his replies, studied his mood, and adapted himself to it. There, no doubt, was the weakness of his talk. It lay in his pliancy, his readiness to swerve round."
This last characteristic developed at times to flattery, par¬ticularly in his talk with women, whom he regarded as the rulers of society. He also had one kind of conversation which was calculated to impress people for whom he had really a great intellectual contempt. "It was overdone," says O'Sulli¬van, "loaded with crushing compliments, almost oily. . . . Perhaps it was a variation of his national 'blarney.'"

megpróbáltam kimondani azt, hogy szellemileg megvetett...vaahogy nem igazán magyar. Inkább a szellemileg mélységesen lenézett, intellektuálisan magánál alábbvalónak tartott a jobb, IMHO
