Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in words that are close to each other - this also includes diphthongs. Like alliteration, it is the sound rather than the letter used that is important.

Yulia Savelieva Thank you all for the answers. I have asked the client for more information on this piece, and this is what's going on here. Originally, on the network, the endpoint is connected to the Mail server, which in turn is connected directly to the gateway. The client's product (a DLP system component) is then installed on the network between the Mail server and the gateway so that it can monitor the mail and intercept anything suspicious. I, of course, can just say "installation between the Mail server and the gateway" but is this technically correct, or is there a specific term for this I need to use?

Roman Bouchev is self-explanatory. I would avoid using words like 'gap' or 'split' because they add nothing to the meaning of the phrase. I have consulted my former schoolmate, who is now a software engineer at one of Saint-Petersburg's web application development companies, and was told that jargon like that sounded obscure and wordy to him. So, I think BETWEEN is enough here for the purpose of your translation.

Yulia Savelieva I have found an answer to my question. The correct term is "inline". In this particular case, "inline between".
