Schon "aperture" ist ja nicht zu 100% eindeutig im Photographiejargon, aber in Kombination mit "whip drive" würde ich darauf tippen, dass es sich hierbei um den Motor handelt, der entweder die Öffnung oder die Einstellung der Blende kontrolliert. Für "whip drive" findet sich (im technischen Feld) nur folgende Definition:

"The Whip Drive is what your Wire Whips, Batter Whips and Cookie Paddles connect to."

Wenn man sich einen solchen Drehmotor im auf die Phototechnik übertragenen Sinne vorstellt, macht das sogar halbwegs Sinn.
