Da ich meinen "Beitrag zu Eintragung" nicht finden kann, hier nochmal der Kommentar als Antwort. Sollte das jetzt doppelt vorhanden sein, entschuldige ich mich dafür.


Auch wenn die Frage lange her ist, da beide Vorschläge gleichermaßen zugestimmt wurde, hier eine kurze Anmerkung:

"Field of the invention" ist das "Gebiet der Erfindung", d.h. das allgemeine Fachgebiet, auf dem die Erfindung liegt. Dies wird im allgemeinen im ersten Absatz einer Patentanmeldung angegeben (Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft...).

"Gegenstand der Erfindung" ist speziell das, was der Erfindung zugrunde liegt und wird mit "subject matter" übersetzt. Hier geht es um die Erfindung selbst, d.h. das was die Erfindung ausmacht.

Stark vereinfacht ausgedrückt, wird das Gebiet der Erfindung durch den Oberbegriff des Hauptanspruchs ausgedrückt, der Gegenstand durch den kennzeichnenden Teil.

Die Begriffe sind im Patentwesen nicht synonym.

"Field of the invention" ist daher nicht der "Gegenstand der Erfindung"
