One thing is to play down on the downbeat and up on the upbeat. Whatever you're trying to do in terms of riffs and melodies and such, you never need to sacrifice this rule. There's always a way to do it without messing up the flow, without playing up on a downbeat or down on an upbeat.

Meine Übersetzung ist:
Eine Sache ist der Anschlag von oben nach unten beim Haupttakt und von unten nach oben beim Auftakt. Egal wie man mit den Riffs und Melodien experimentiert, diese Regel sollte man nie aufgeben. Man kann immer Variationen versuchen, ohne dabei das flüssige Spiel zu unterbrechen und beim Haupttakt von unten nach oben und beim Auftakt von oben nach unten anzuschlagen.

Downbeat habe ich mit Haupttakt übersetzt, wäre aber über andere Meinungen dankbar.

"Downbeat" und "Upbeat" sind auch im Deutschen die korrekten Fachbegriffe, solange es im weitesten Sinne um Popularmusik geht (was bei Deinem Text eindeutig der Fall ist). Auf Deutsch hieße es: Schwere/leichte Zählzeit, aber das würde ich wie gesagt eher bei "E-Musik" verwenden.

Haupttakt und Auftakt ist schlicht falsch und indiskutabel.

agree  Erik Freitag: Stimmt, das geht auch, aber auch eher in der E-Musik. Besonders der erste Link ist gefährlich: Da wird sehr viel Unsinn geschrieben.
