Die Verwendung von "Kandidat" im Sinne von "mögliche Variante" ist auch üblich.

agree  Irene Schlotter, Dipl.-Übers.: Mit Steffen... Ich finde nach wie vor, dass sich auch 'mögliche' oder 'infrage kommende' anbieten würde, denn letztendlich geht es um eine (von diversen) Konfigurationsoptionen.
