Aber wie kann ich hier "mainstream" (als Gegenteil von Insellösungen) übersetzen?

Vielleicht so: "Zur Erreichung dieser Ziele müssen System i Anwendungen **von Insellösungen zu integrierten Gesamtsystemen übergehen**." Kann man das besser formulieren?

Ich kann mir unter "System i applications" leider nicht viel vorstellen und weiß auch nicht, ob die bei oben beschriebenem Konzept genannten "Inseln" im Rahmen der Umstellung dann "links liegen" gelassen (Version 1 + 2) oder "mainstream-tauglich" ausgebaut/erweitert würden (3) - aber in jedem Falle lassen sich diese Sinnbilder nur verwenden, wenn aus dem Kontext absolut unmissverständlich ist, das mit "Insel" die genannten "Insellösungen" gemeint sind.

vielleicht auch:

"... muss man auf jeden Fall von seiner eigenen kleinen Insel herunter kommen und endlich am Geschehen teilnehmen."

Ist möglicherweise aber wirklich viel zu frei...

  -> Gut möglich, dass das 'ne Bauchlandung im Wasser zwischen Insel und Festland war! ;-) Mit "Festland" meinte ich jedenfalls den Bereich, in dem alles IT-mäßig miteinander verbunden/vernetzt ist... wie auch immer... %-)
