ich bereite mich zur Zeit auf die Prüfung für das IOL Diploma in Translation vor und habe gerade das Paper 1 von 2003 übersetzt. Es sind aber noch einige Fragen offen (8, um genau zu sein)und es wäre schön, wenn einige von euch Zeit und Lust hätten, mir hier mit ihrer Meinung weiterzuhelfen.

Es handelt sich um eine Rede zum Thema "Sicherheit bei internationalen Fussballspielen", die im April 2002 im Europaparlament gehalten wurde.

On Friday, I visited the football intelligence unit in Greater Manchester police service.
Unfortunately, we have a wealth of experience and expertise in tackling football related
violence in my city. The ***Assistant Chief Constable*** of Greater Manchester Police has read
this report and he welcomes the initiative in the light of what he calls “different standards
in dealing, for example, with Manchester United away fixtures and England away
fixtures”. On Friday, the unit was preparing for two key matches on Saturday. One of
those was Oldham versus Stoke City: the last time these two teams had met, known
hooligans had rampaged through the town, wrecking property and attacking people. In
the UK we have pro-active football legislation to deal with our hooligan problems. This
allows us to impose banning orders; so, when a hundred of those fans arrived in Oldham,
they were immediately arrested because they are banned from attending any matches.
Those banning orders also apply to international matches.

Polizeidienstgrade bei der britischen Polizei: Lässt man das stehen, erklärt man in Klammern, was es ist oder übersetzt man das ?
Ich habe schon nach einem Glossar für Polizeidienstgrade gesucht, aber leider nichts gefunden.

Explanation:
Das ist nur anhand des Kontexts geraten. Und laut Link von Total Recall ist es ja eigentlich der zweite Stellvertreter. Ich persönlich würde nachsehen, wie die Polizei des Großraums Manchester aufgebaut ist, den englischen Terminus kursiv stehen lassen ('und die passende Übersetzung') in Klammern beigegeben. Denn "Assistant Chief Constable" allein ist für einen deutschen Leser unverständlich.
