English term or phrase: big-leaf mahogany
Earning up to six dollars a day, loggers slice a mahogany trunk into rough boards at a makeshift sawmill by Rio Los Amigos. Peru is the world's leading exporter of mahogany, with nearly half of its exports going to the U.S. for high-end furniture and coffins. Experts estimate that up to 90 percent of that wood has been logged illegally. Threatened throughout its range in South America, big-leaf mahogany has been protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora since 2002.

Amerikanischer Mahagoni(baum)

Explanation:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerikanisches_Mahagoni

http://www.springerlink.com/content/9202m34735291k1g/
