It is something that can happen to the rollers in bearings... but what??

Here is the sentence:
Inspect the gears, bearings, shafts and thrust
washers. Replace the bearings and cups if the rollers
are worn, chipped, cracked, flat spotted, or **brinnelled**, or if the bearing cage is damaged or distorted.

True brinelling is the indentation of a part and the movement of material due to excessive operating pressure, impact, dropping or hammering. True brinelling is a material deformation issue where the inner or outer race material has been pushed or squashed out of place.

Brinelling - False
The indentation of inner or outer race material caused by the rolling elements.
False brinelling is the indentation of a part where the indented material has been worn away. False brinelling is a wear issue due to metal-to-metal contact and is most often caused by external vibration. False brinelling can also be caused by vibration of a stationary bearing, especially in the absence of proper lubrication.

Der Begriff Rattermarke (chatter marks) wird vorwiegend in Zusammenhang mit Oberflächenbearbeitung verwendet.

Er wird jedoch (mangels etwas Besserem) besonders auch für Lagerschäden im Lenkkopf von Motorrädern verwendet. Diese Schäden treten durch die Stöße auf das Lager während des normalen Betriebs auf (siehe obige Definition für \'true brinelling\').

agree  Klaus Herrmann: Ja, ich habe noch ein bisschen weitergelesen, und der Begriff wird tatsächlich so verwendet. Hab' ich wieder was gelernt. (PS - Die PDF-Broschüre in meinem zweiten Link ist ganz empfehlenswert).

Explanation:
Als Arbeitshypothese zum Widersprechen oder Zustimmen - Eindrücke wäre ein allgemeiner (nicht zwischen Fremd- oder Walzkörpern unterscheidender ) Begriff, aber vermutlich dürfte des nicht um Fremdköper gehen. (Der Unterschied ist in der zweiten Referenz zu sehen, Seite 22 für Fremdkörpereindrücke und Seite 37 für Wälzkörpereindrücke). Abgesehen von einem Anfangsverdacht und ein wenig praktischer Erfahrung begründet sich dieser aber nur auf dem Vergleich theoretischer Beschreibungen und Schadensbildern in beiden Sprachen (billing vs. Eindrücke), also keinerlei Wörterbuchreferenz.

Ich denke, das kann man so stehen lassen. Unrund für brinelled ist zwar sehr unscharf, aber andererseits stehen da ja noch die sonstigen Schäden. Schließlich fehlen ja auch noch andere potentielle Schadensarten (z. B. Rost, Säureschäden usw.), und es ist wohl eher kein wissentschaftliches Traktat. Mein Fazit wäre stehenlassen und noch immer kein deutscher Glossareintrag (IT hat einen)

Doch, diese Eindrücke scheinen tatsächlich als Rattermarken bezeichnet zu werden. Ich kannte Rattermarken bisher nur als chatter mark(s). Allerdings bin gerne bereit, dazuzulernen :-)

agree  Fox76 (X): WB De Fries / Brandstetter nennt ganz einfach "brinelliert". Auf jeden Fall ist die Oberflächenhärte der Kugeln beeinträchtigt (Brinell-Härte)
