English term or phrase: chuckle noise
This has nothing to do with *chuckling* i.e. what people do but:
It has to do with damper/shock absorber systems. They have to be tested, and they are tested for mechanical or *chuckling* noise.

I only have a PP presentation:

*Artificial Head
- colormap analyses of chuckle noise signals - making sound visible
- complaint setting
- optimized setting
- audible chuckle event -> elminated!*

polterndes Geräusch, Poltern
Explanation:
cf:

The second type of shock absorber
noise is often described as mechanical
noise or “chuckle” noise. It can be
observed in autos during low-displacement,
higher-frequency events such as
driving over a slightly rough road, and
in extreme cases can sound like golf
balls rolling and bouncing around
loose in the trunk.

Now you just have to find a nice translation for the sound golfballs make in the trunk of a car! :-)
