English term or phrase: 对于“turned down",是不是这样翻译最符合原文?
For this text:

> Only then is the survival brain turned down and the personality fever cooled.

Thank you in advance!

**The context is :**(原文中无“**”记号,我加上的)

> The Buddha taught that kind of happiness. He put it this way: “True happiness can only be found by eliminating the false idea of ‘I’ or ‘self.’” **Only then is the survival brain turned down and the personality fever cooled.** The only problem with that formulation is that once the “I” or “self ” has been eliminated, then there is no one around to enjoy the feeling of happiness.

Explanation:

Notes to answerer
Asker: “令凡心俗念归于沉静”——这样意译确实没错,不过我觉得不能跟上文的“ The Buddha taught that kind of happiness. He put it this way: “True happiness can only be found by eliminating the false idea of ‘I’ or ‘self.’” ”相呼应, 因为"survival brain" (幸存的大腦) means the brain without "I" and "self". @Phil @Dr

Asker: Sorry, My fault...我没有仔细看原文——eliminating the false idea of ‘I’ or ‘self.’——NOT " without "I" and "self"." thank you! 但是还是觉得——原文的原意其实是指大脑,brain只是turn down(not turn off)——function in a low level——而一般人们不说心灵在低水平上运作。

。。brain 其實也有心靈的解釋——Your brain is your mind and the way that you think. 不過為了更符合原文,我還是傾向於譯為大腦,就像cpu of an computer which functions in a low level.

neutral  Phil Hand: The meaning is right, but do we want to stick closer to the text? I think we should recreate the 执著于生存 and 对自我特色的沉迷 in the translation.

-> Thanks. At least you also believe the "brain" here does not necessarily mean the physical tissue within our skull, right?

灭去

Explanation:

Explanation:
Discussion Post.

"You can either try to stay apace with the endless flow of desire or help undermine the juggernaut of destruction - the self-consumption economy."

Example sentence(s):
