1 here is a 'bestiary' (= glossary of miraculous birds and beasts?) that refers to classical myth:

Explanation:
山海經 in fact is a collection of descriptions of both real and imaginary animals and of some deities, even geography.

Therefore I suppose it's a sort of 誌.
