English term or phrase: foolhardiness or rashness
You can easily work out concrete examples of this Greek ethics for yourself. Thus abstention from sexual intercourse, celibacy, would be to Greeks unnatural, excessive, and therefore not virtuous; promiscuity in sex life, obsessive indulgence in or ... would also ... not virtuous. The Golden Mean here, as with the other appetites, involves self-control, balance, decency. Or, as a final illustration, courage is clearly a virtue, and a fine manly one. Cowardice -- insufficiency of courage -- is most obviously a vice. But so too is excess of courage, which we commonly call ***foolhardiness or rashness,*** and which is the attribute, not of the brave man, but of the show-off.

中国话里有与 foolhardiness 和 rashness 相称的两个词吗?
暴虎冯河、匹夫之勇,似乎都不相称。
