It appears to have been named after the queen consort, Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II. see quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens,_New_York
"Established on November 1, 1683, it was named for the then-queen consort, Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II."
