Human beings shed hair and skin all the time, but elephant seals go an abrupt molt called a catastrophic molt, in which the entire layer of epidermis with the hairs attached is sloughed off in one concentrated time.

Any idea if there is an Arabic term for this? I'm tentatively thinking of طرح الشعر الكارثي but I'm not too sure of the catastrophic part.
