:مجرد ملاحظة على هامش المصطلح
الترجمة واحدة بطبيعة الحال وأشهرها هو تابوت العهد ولكنها تسمي أيضاٌ ميثاق الرب حيث أن التابوت كلمة غير عربية، والكلمات التي تنتهي ب "وت" عادة ما تكون عبرية أو كلدانية أو سريانية، وقد استخدم القرآن الكريم كلمة "تابوت" مرتين بمعنى مختلف في كل مرة. ففي سورة طه الآية 39 "أن اقذفيه في التابوت" والتابوت هنا تعني سلة صغيرة وُضع فيها موسى، وفي سورة البقرة الآية 248 "وقال لهم نبيهم إن آية مُلكه أن يأتيكم التابوت فيه سكينةٌ من ربكم". والتابوت هنا ، حسب تفسير الجلالين، يعني صندوق به صور الأنبياء انزله الله على آدم واستمر إلى بني إسرائيل، وفي اليهودية تستعمل كلمة التابوت لتعني الميثاق بين الله وبني إسرائيل،
