agree  Helen Johnson: also seen mandatory, although I don't think they exist in England, i.e. they're not compulsory.

agree  Christine Andersen: You simply have to explain somewhere, that the Danish holiday rights are regulated in much more detail than the UK, US and many other countries. Holidays must be taken, and there is probably no expression that corresponds exacttly to the Danish situation.

Explanation:
It doesn't render the 'lovpligtig' but it is what is normally used when talking about carrying over leave from one year to the next in HR context. Days in lieu is used for any days you are due for overtime etc. if that is what 'feriedage' refers to.
