coated stock Explanation: That is, paper with a surface varnish, usually made of clay (hence the synonymous term "clay-coat"). Inks tend to dry more slowly on this slick-surfaced paper, hence the advantage of using quick-drying inks, especially if as many as 8 color levels are involved.
