Catalan term or phrase: promotor
Hello everyone,

I am translating an informed consent form for a clinical trial, and I am unsure of the exact meaning of "promotor" in this context.

I understood it to be the sponsor in the first instance (It appeared as simply "Promotor: [company name]"). It also mentions that the hospitals running the trial will receive compensation from the "promotor". But, later in the text, there are some other phrases that make me doubt this interpretation. For example, it says that for a patient to participate in the trial, "Tant el metge de l'estudi com el promotor hi estiguin d'acord", and "Podria experimentar un efecte secundari impossible de predir per al metge de l'estudi o el promotor".

This sounds like the Promotor's involvement is more than just financial and also involves medical decisions, which to me suggests that "sponsor" is the wrong word. However, this could simply be a disclaimer.

Does anyone know whether sponsor is correct, or whether another term is more appropriate in this context?

Explanation:
Hi G,

I would go woth 'Sponsor' as a sponsor can also be a research institution, therefore in theory, may also have knowledge of the possible risks and side effects the trial may involve. Hope this helps!
