3. Obertura o manteniment de ***línies de defensa***: treballs silvícoles consistents en la implantació o el manteniment d’infraestructures per a la prevenció i la lluita contra incendis forestals. Aquests treballs en zones de seguretat i zones de protecció no es poden fer durant el període comprès entre el 15 de març i el 15 d’octubre, llevat d’autorització excepcional de l’Administració forestal.


3.1 ***Franja de protecció***: secció de terreny permanentment lliure de vegetació baixa i arbustiva, amb la massa forestal aclarida (densitat d’arbres adults inferior a 150 peus/ha, amb una distribució homogènia sobre el terreny), les branques baixes esporgades (un terç de la seva alçària amb un màxim de 5 metres), i neta de vegetació seca i morta durant l’època de màxim risc d’incendis, com també de qualsevol mena de residu vegetal o d’un altre tipus que pugui afavorir la propagació del foc.


I just can't decide how to translate the two terms. They both appear to refer to some kind of 'fire break/firebreak'. But the differences between 'firebreak', 'fireline' and 'fire control line' in English are so subtle that I really can't decide which is which (i.e. which English translation would correspond to which Catalan term!

Any ideas from firefighting experts? :))

'línies de defensa', refers to all the firefighting infrastructure, which is, in my opinion, a line of defense, whereas 'franja de protecció' is the proper firebreak.
