scanner Explanation: scanner - In medicine, an instrument that takes pictures of the inside of the body. scan - A picture of structures inside the body. Scans often used in diagnosing, staging, and monitoring disease include liver scans, bone scans, and computed tomography (CT) or computerized axial tomography (CAT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. In liver scanning and bone scanning, radioactive substances that are injected into the bloodstream collect in these organs. A scanner that detects the radiation is used to create pictures. In CT scanning, an x-ray machine linked to a computer is used to produce detailed pictures of organs inside the body. MRI scans use a large magnet connected to a computer to create pictures of areas inside the body. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr 2 mins (2005-09-22 17:40:29 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Наименованието на уреда ли е нужно или на модела скенер? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr 8 mins (2005-09-22 17:46:21 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Може би става дума за т. нар. MRI scanner Explanation: MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a fairly new technique that has been used since the beginning of the 1980s. The MRI scan uses magnetic and radio waves, meaning that there is no exposure to X-rays or any other damaging forms of radiation. ... Using an MRI scanner, it is possible to make pictures of almost all the tissue in the body. (http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/health_advice/examinations/mrisca... н.) http://www.philips.bg/about/company/section-13347/index.html http://www.medicinabg.com/ http://www.rousse.bg/health_program.php http://www.zachatie.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtop... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 10 hrs 57 mins (2005-09-23 03:36:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Usage Examples: 1. "UPMC, which operates 18 hospitals, is planning to buy or already has purchased six MRIs in addition to the four 64-slice CT scanners, said Jim Terwilliger, vice president of operations at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside. The CT scanners will be installed at Hillman Cancer Center and Presbyterian, St. Margaret and Passavant hospitals at a time when demand is rising: the number of high-end scans, such as MRIs, increased more than 15 percent at Presbyterian alone last year, he said." (http://www.bizjournals.com/industries/health_care/hospitals/... * (CT е съкращение за Computed Tomography (CT) imaging, also known as "CAT scanning" (Computed Axial Tomography). The 29 counties where Highmark operates in Western Pennsylvania are home to about 140 MRI machines, for example, while the 32 million people living in Canada share 151." (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05030/449686.stm) 3. Although U.S. shipments of ultrasonic scanning devices and pacemakers increased 5 percent and 3 percent, respectively, the more capital-intensive equipment such as MRIs declined nearly 20 percent. The slowdown in MRIs was most evident in dollar-volume shipments, which reached a peak of nearly $800 million in 1992 before declining to an estimated $600 million in 1993. Based on National Electrical Manufacturers Association member company shipments, which accounted for about 70 percent of all MRI manufacturers in the United States, unit sales also dropped an estimated 22 percent in 1993 (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3617/is_1994_Annu...
