Не съм специалист в областта, но според речника по одит, счетоводство, данъци и т.н. на Добринка Кръстева, 'ишлеме' е toll processing.

Ето и друго определение с приложен линк по-долу:
"Toll processing can be defined as performing a service on a customer’s product for a fee. In other words, for example say customer X would like to blend product A with product B at a 5% level by weight. He does not have the proper equipment to perform this function. He then sends product A and product B in separate containers to a toll processor. The materials are blended producing product C, placed in a new container, and sent back to customer X. Customer X pays a service fee to the toll processor usually in terms of $/lb. of material processed."

Не мисля, че това е американски английски, защото този тип терминология показва тенденции на 'незачитане', по-скоро сливане на езиковите различия по географски показател.
По мое скромно мнение, toll processing, toll manufacturing, toll conversion, or custom manufacturing би било еднакво разбираемо за всички от съответната индустрия, които ползват английски в работата си.

Asker: Благодаря. Не мислите ли, че това е по-скоро американски английски? От гледна точка на превод едно към едно съм съгласна, че е най-точното съответствие, но ме притеснява факта, че хората, които владеят британския/европейския английски няма да го разберат. Много благодаря за този вариант.

Според мен не е задължително работещият на ишлеме да е подизпълнител. Имам познат, който дава да му шият на ишлеме, и шиещият не е е подизпълнител, а изпълнител на съответния договор.
