Well, I guess I will have to take my words back. Yolanta Vlaykov is right !!! I just double checked with a native speaker and he confirmed that child care is not only for young kids. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Krasimira, it is called "after-school program": Children who find learning difficult need interventions to accelerate their learning (Slavin et al. 1993). Initiatives such as more focused time, individualized instruction, tutoring, or other individuals http://www.inca.org.uk/pdf/probe_canada.pdf
I do not say England because it is not correct; it is Great Britain. As for Canada, well it has nothing to do with the UK except for some 'minor' relations like Her Majesty, the Commonwealth countries, the English language ...
Dear Natasha, not for the first time you are surprising us with your conclusions. Canada didn't copy from England and what you are saying-that USA and Canada copied everything from England is let say ridiculous, I don't want to say anything else....
and to read : The child care centres provide service to infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, kindergarten and school-age children, who are supervised by qualified staff. TDSB(Toronto School Board) currently houses over 300 sites for child care in our school

Asker: I was thiking more of "after school / extra curriculum activities"
What Is Extended Day?
What Are Extended Day Learning Opportunities?
Extended-day programs—also called “after-school programs”—are a significant opportunity to improve learning for students. However, they must do more than help children complete worksheets and play kick ball. To really make a positive difference in learning, after-school and summer programs must be engaging, comprehensive, and done in partnership with families and other key stakeholders in the community. In addition, extended-day programs should intentionally enhance learning opportunities for children and their families by:
Helping students catch up. Many children need more individualized learning time beyond the school day and year, and they need help completing their homework. Engaging students in learning at higher levels. Many children need an accelerated set of learning opportunities to keep up.
