Asker: Защо се спряхте именно на well от така изброените възможности? Според OED: well = 8. a.8.a The central open space, from roof to basement, of a winding, spiral, or elliptical staircase; the open space in which a lift operates. Звучи като да е нещо по-специфично. Освен това well означава и много други неща на английски.

agree  atche84: тук би трябвало да е stair hall - всички останали варианти (и в другите отговори) разглеждат цялото стълбище от горе до долу, а в контекста се говори само за разрез (хоризонтална площ)
