Arabic term or phrase: قزحة
Greetings

I am told that there are two theories for the word قزح (the second part of قوس قزح, “rainbow”):
1. It's a proper name in a form that makes it a diptote ممنوع من الصرف. It's then قوس قُزَحَ.
2. It's the plural of the word قزحة. It's then قوس قُزَحٍ since that plural is not a diptote.

But do you have a word قزحة? If so, how is it pronounced and what does it mean? Is it used much?

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon

القزحة is حبة البركة or الحبة السوداء, which goes by the scientific name Nigella sativa.

Update>>>

Since you defined the term to lie within Linguistics / Etymology, it could indeed have something to do with rainbow.

قزحة could stand for the singular of the plural قزح. Hence, it would mean a single stream of color from the rainbow.

However, it's - in this context - not of a frequent use at all.

Poppy seed

Explanation:
It has nothing to do with "rainbow", you are reading too much into it.
It is pronounced "Quz-ha"

Asker: Many thanks. Actually I'm not reading anything into it – if you read my question carefully, you'll see that I am merely relaying two theories without commenting on accuracy.

Explanation:
http://islamqa.info/ar/ref/146073
وبناء على ذلك فضل بعض رجال الدين المسلمين أن يسموا القوس الذي يظهر في السماء بقوس الله أو قوس المطر

وأعجبني ما في لسان العرب من شرح

أما عن لفظ الكلمة (قزحة) فهو بفتح القاف
