neutral  Robert Carter: Hi Jane, look up "Assistant Secretary for Special Education" in the US government. "Associate" is a calque; IMO "Asociado" is the Puerto Rican translation of "Assistant".

agree  philgoddard: I think the asker has probably left out the accent. And it's associate, not assistant.

agree  Robert Carter: Definitely more likely to be this than "associate", which I think is probably a Puerto Rican translation of the counterpart post in the mainland U.S.//Btw, "Secretary" not "Secretariat".
