Explanation:
I don't think these shoes are simply cheap and nasty. I think someone else wore them for ages and the shoes became all bulgy to accommodate their owner's feet. Then they were considered worn out and were given to a charity sale. The speaker then started wearing these shoes, that had various bulges in all the wrong places and uneven soles.
