Balancing is right, Ed. As I suspected, I have since discovered that the term is specific Data Protection law vocabulary (see below) If you post the answer, it can go in the glossaary for future generations.
Article 7 of Directive 95/46/EC
Paragraph (f) refers, more generally, to (any kind of) legitimate interest pursued by the controller (in any context). This general provision, however, is specifically made subject to an additional balancing test, which requires the legitimate nterests of the controller - or the third party or parties to whom the data are disclosed – to be weighed against the interests or fundamental rights of the data subjects.

You have a set of criteria to apply to a set of applicants to make a decision. Query: which weight do you associate to each criterion to come up with an aggregate number for each applicant? As simple as that!

Perhaps, 'balancing of interests' might be more appropriate. Usually, in EN we would use something like 'weighing the pros and cons of the competing interests.'

In that case, "weighting" makes perfect sense.

As it is a data protection matter, the "responsable" is the "controller," and the "interesado" is the data subject. The report deals with the existence or not of consent and legitimate interest, not with the weighting of numbers.
