§ 24.214 Spanish type blending sherry.
Blending wine made with partially caramelized grape concentrate may be produced, stored, and handled on, or transferred in bond between, bonded wine premises, or removed upon payment of tax, not for sale or consumption as beverage wine. Wine of a high solids content and dark in color, produced under this section, is designated “Spanish Type Blending Sherry.” Upon removal, the shipping containers will be marked with the applicable designation and the legend “Not for Sale or Consumption as Beverage Wine.” Spanish type blending sherry is not standard wine and may not be blended with standard wine except pursuant to an approved formula or in the further production of this type of wine.

"Spanish type blending Sherry" - Vino de Jerez de varias cosechas (procedente de España)

Creo que "blending" se refiere al proceso de fermentación y envejecimiento del vino de Jerez, en el que se va envejeciendo por cosechas y se van mezclando vinos con diferentes niveles de envejecimiento en las barricas.

En función de la naturaleza del texto y de a quién vaya dirigido, yo quitaría "procedente de España" ya que los españoles sabemos que este vino tiene origen en nuestro país, por lo que tal vez haya que localizarlo.

Explanation:
Yo de vinos, aparte de que mis padres eran manchegos, y mi bisabuelo inventó o fabricó unos alambiques de tubo de cobre para destilar alcohol, por los que el Rey Alfonso XII (que no el XIII) le premió con una medalla al mérito..., entiendo poco, poquito o casi nada...

Pero creo que por analogía con "vino de solera", definido por Moliner como:

v. de solera Vino más añejo que se mezcla al nuevo para darle sabor.

No creo que haya problema en usar la expresión, como de hecho puede googlearse también:

Por cierto, ayer, escuchando un podcast de "No es un día cualquiera", con Pepa Fernández, hablaban del maridaje de vinos...

Por lo que "jerez de maridaje" o "para maridaje" tal vez sería útil en el futuro.

Asker: A glass of sherry would do, but not blending sherry! Cheers!

Asker: I have recently learned that the sherry most used for blending with whisky was of the Pedro Jiménez variety.
