took in a reef Explanation: reefed the mainsail, reefed, Nowadays you only reef the mainsail, the headsails usually being roller reefed; to these you "take in a few rolls" or "roll in the headsail" Some mainsails are inmast roller sails, much loved by domigueros and charter companies. Give me good old slab reefs any day. |
