L’arco pilota produce un dardo ad elevato potere illuminante che facilita le operazioni di saldatura e particolarmente quelle di puntatura.
Il gradiente di temperatura alla periferia dell’arco trasferito è molto elevato mentre la conducibilità termica è molto bassa.
Lo strato limite della vena calda costituisce uno schermo termico ed elettrico il quale, oltre a mantenere la temperatura elevata nell’arco, dona all’arco stesso una geometria cilindrica e direzionale.
