E' il titolo di un capitolo in cui si parla di moto ondoso in stile molto divulgativo. Non saprei dire tra "Wave over wave" e "Wave upon wave", considerando che le onde davvero si sovrappongono.

Explanation:
Ovviamente molto dipende dal contesto quindi 'wave upon wave' potrebbe andar bene, ma il termine per l'acqua del mare che incontra la spiaggia in onda dopo onda è 'wave after wave' che anche va applicato ad un attacco di aeroplani dalla avviazione militare come i tedeschi nel blitz di Londra nel 1940. Visto che si tratta di geologia, è che deposizione di sedimenti occurre sotto il mare, direi che 'wave after wave' sia più adeguato al contesto.

Dall'altro canto, una modal poetica di tradurre questo termine sarebbe 'overlapping waves', ma solamente in una poesia.
