To save their offspring, they decided to open an irrigation ditch from the faraway Waypo Lake, through Chequereq. This would enable them to use the lake water and irrigate part of Maras lands. Estaban seguros que una obra de gran envergadura como ésta no la culminarían ellos, sino que sería un trabajo para las futuras generaciones (they knew that such major work would not be concluded by them, but would be inherited to future generations/taken on by future generations).
