Aspecto: Las anguilas de arena son largas y adelgazan, casi cilíndrico con las narices acentuadas largas, normalmente con una quijada más baja que resalta. La aleta dorsal va a lo largo de la mayoría de la parte posteriora, mientras que la aleta de la cola tiene un en forma de u. La parte posteriora tiene un color verde o azul, mientras que los lados y el abdomen tienen un lustre de plata.
