I've received a mail from this scammer last month. He wanted me to translate the document of a company called DNV GL from English into Thai. The trick is sending the check more than requested then ask to transfer back the difference to the account in Spain (Sevilla), He even threatened to report me to Interpol, what a joke! I hope he doesn't get anyone here.

Paul Broussard Jun 19, 2019

I had almost been feeling left out because nobody had ever tried to scam me. But I got a message today from a Paul Broussard.
Weirdly explaining about being in Munich and madame Kourta cancelling at the last minute, which made me suspicious. I did write asking for his company's name, the file and the deadline, and how he got my email.

Google tells me Paul Broussard was the victim of a gay-bashing attack outside a gay nightclub back in the 90s. No LinkedIn or other accounts from this century (after all there could be more than one, there's more than one Kay Denney too).
He himself told me he got my name from the list of sworn translators. Well that's a lie because I don't do sworn translations.

I had the same today. Paul Broussard needed a translation form French into Italian. It sounded strange, but now I have the confirmation. He wanted to pay me more than requested, I was supposed to receive the chèque directly from the other translator.

In my case, I was being asked to translate 20 pages from French into English. The writer identified himself as "Formateur en Marketing", and pretexted the same absence in Munich. He made a grammatical mistake: "je serai ravis...". The e-mail address given was "[email protected]". On searching the web, I too found the reference to the unfortunate victim of gay-bashing, of whom our mystery client presumably usurped the name, but there was a complete absence of other, more recent references. The phrasing of the e-mail, with limited contact and professional details, put me on my guard. I am grateful to you all for clearing this matter up in my mind.

I enjoyed Kay's wry mention of having wrested unearned and ultimately unattainable money out of Elena's hands: it sounds like bitcoin

Seriously, I hope ProZ can with its numerous community-oriented activities prevent other colleagues from stumbling into this time-wasting pitfall.

With kind regards,

Adam Warren (IanDhu - translator 41189)
