However, I really do not think that people should feel threatened by proz. You should not rely on the internet to find work as it is very competitive. Going to conferences and ringing clients directly (e.g. from a list of German companies in your area which you can get from the local Chamber of Commerce) is a good way of finding work. The closer you are to a client the bigger your slice of the pie. Also, make sure you have a number of colleagues you can rely on as you may suddenly get too much work.

Maybe you could try to explain why there have been so many messages here and in many other lists from translators complaining that ProZ.com allows outsourcers to post jobs at 0.01 to 0.06 (sometimes for translation of very difficult source text)?

Maybe 0.06 euro is a good enough rate for Romania (and it apparently is, given the rates you post (0.05)), it certainly doesn\'t pay your bills when you reside in far more expensive countries.

Of course Proz has no real idea what translators charge, only what they state in their profiles. With technological advances in CAT and cheaper references, 0.07 a word means an easy 210 euros a day for non-specialist stuff, so 40,000 euros a year.
If that's a problem, leave it to somebody else.

The job being referred to is highly specialised. But with the rates proposed, I am fairly sure they will get the specialists they truly deserve.
And yes, people are allowed to state whatever they want to on their profile page. Rates included.
