A peculiar and unique situation relating to folders.

I have several folders on my desktop. Quite surprisingly I am facing a peculiar and unique problem from today itself. There are several files every folder and now every folders automatically contains within it a folder of its own name and when I double click it, it shows me the files present in My Documents.

I am unable to understand the reason of this problem. Please suggest.

Open My computer, right click a disk, select Tools and click a Verify button

...when I select Tools, I don't find a Verify button and instead there are three options :

Map Network Drive

Disconnect Network Drive

Synchronize

right click, Properties and then Tools (second tab)
