When I work on my laptop with Outlook running in the background, the basic details of incoming email messages, i.e. who it is coming from, are temporarily displayed in the bottom corner of my screen. This is a very useful feature and it immediately tells me whether I need to interrupt my work to look at the message in greater detail. But when I work on my desktop with Outlook Express running in the background, I only hear a sound when a message comes in and feel compelled to switch to Outlook Express to check whether the message is important, which interrupts my work flow, often for no good reason at all. How do I get my desktop to do the same? I cannot find where I am supposed to switch this feature on or off in Windows/Outlook/Outlook Express. I am not talking about the preview pane in Outlook/Outlook Express itself, but about a brief flash that appears on the screen while I'm working in other programmes. ▲ Collapse

In Outlook Express go to Tools/Options. Then choose Preferences Tag and click the E-mail Options button. In the new box click Advanced E-mail Options. Then in the Section "When new items arrive in my box" check all the four options. I spent so much time trying to figure it out myself! Good luck, Bella

Cannot find the 'preferences' under Outlook Express

Dear Izabella,
I've got Outlook Express 6 and can get as far as Tools Options, but I don't see Advanced or Preferences there.... Maybe this is only possible under Outlook or in a different version of Outlook Express?
