Can anyone recommend a good html editor (freeware) to translate files overwriting the texts without seeing the codes?

.. comes in many installations of windows or internet explorer. You can try the repair/install options for the above and see if the options allow you to install Frontpage Express.
Otherwise, there are several good shareware programs available where you might be able to get a 30 day trial with unrestricted functionality. Try Download.com (part of CNET) or Tucows, searching for "html editor". Hotdog is a good program that I have tried and used. Easy to use etc.

Don't use Frontpage to edit HTML. It will change your codes..!!!

Best bet is Dreamweaver and Homesite, but to be exactly safe, use ol' NotePad.

It changes codes, is complicated (uncontrollable) to use. I have had very bad results on some pages.

Try Arachnophilia. I prefer the former version.

I confirm what my colleagues said about Frontpage, express or full. You can use it for your homepage, but not for work. Because it damages the code of your client.

There is also the excellent freeware called Notetab light.

and the way you can choose te level of difficulty you wish to work with is great.
