Seriously now ... is that a German proverb, Matthias? And a good one as well, and often all too true. How do you say it in German, then?
Actually, I'm going to have a go, so you can all laugh at me:
"Wer die Wahrheit sagt, ein schnelles Pferd braucht." Well, I know "Pferd" is right, at least, and I know it's das Pferd, because I had a bit of a joke with Matthias not long ago about that.

We have just been informed that my roommate has corona.
Adieu monde cruel !
At least I will have all the time in the world to focus on kickstarting my translation business. I might settle down on this topic and share some French poetry of my own in the following days. Stay tuned! | | | Hope for the best | Dec 13, 2020 |
So sorry to hear that.
But remember that many only get mild symptoms, particularly the young.
Try to keep your spirits up in whatever way you can instead of focusing on the negative. That will make it easier to get through it.
I cross my fingers. Let us know how it goes.

Actually none of us has symptoms and the three of us are between 20 and 30 y.o., so we should be fine.
We don't have a big appartment at all, so we might start hating each other at some point, but fortunately here in Estonia they are fine with people going for a walk in parks as long as they don't show any symptoms. | | | Mervyn Henderson España Local time: 20:05 español al inglés + ... Chin up, Antoine! But it's not adieu, monde cruel, not by a long shot. And ... I'm sure everyone will be delighted to read poetry here, too, but you might consider the other poetry thread ongoing at the moment. Just a thought ...
Don't worry too much, take care but don't worry, my son recovered completely at home with some light drugs in contact by phone with the doctor.

Antoine, I wish a speedy recovery to your roommate!
And I'm sure people with mild symptoms should make a good and speedy recovery! I'm crossing my fingers!
It's not a cruel world, try instead to think a bit different: "dis-toi souvent que la vie est plutôt jolie, jolie, jolie, jolie."

I had already noticed this other thread. Thing is, my own poems are far from being my favourite ones and it would be somehow pretentious from me to post them there!

No, not the freelance translator variety, or general-purpose hermit variety; Covid self-isolation. Which is different from quarantine somehow.
Little Miss S has been assiduously but grumpily self-isolating for the past week after a boy in her year at school tested positive. She feels aggrieved mainly because she didn’t think he was even at school any more. In a year and a half of sixth form, she hasn’t seen him once...

Apparently he caught it down the pub, which is after all where most things get caught. After a few pints, this often includes pensive beauties in flies.
The great news today, though, is that while Everest is now a little taller, Covid is officially a little shorter than before (in the UK anyway) and self-isolation has been cut from 14 to 10 days just in time for her to make it to heavily beplagued London for a pre-Christmas kayak camp.
Meanwhile, Master S made a good job of almost severing a finger with his bandsaw but got seen in Casualty in a record-breaking five minutes once the nurses had swept away some of the tumbleweed.
And that concludes my Covid update. Apart from to say that I’ve had enough now. Enough already. Ffs. Enough. ▲ Collapse | | | Mervyn Henderson España Local time: 20:05 español al inglés + ... PERSONA QUE INICIÓ LA HEBRA Ee, them saws | Dec 13, 2020 |
Dangerous things, saws. A nephew of mine was given a jigsaw for Christmas last year, and he lost two or three fingers fooling about with it when he plugged it in. Still, they managed to sew them back on, so luckily everyone saw the funny side.
And, talking of Spitfires - or maybe it's Schpitfeuers - another nephew was given one of those for Christmas last year, and managed to terrorise an entire street in Derry with machine-gun fire before the RAF escorted him down. @Matthias - thanks. So, just the verb out of position, as far as I can see. I surprised myself, even.
