Import succeeded Feb 16, 2013

Import into Wf Pro now has succeeded, 188,000 term pairs in 30 - 60 minutes (just came back from lunch and it was imported, so I cannot give a narrower time frame).

Perhaps I'll repeat with 249,999 terms later.

Too many terms? Feb 16, 2013

That's a different peace of work!

Had to abort import after 2.5 hours. So there is a critical value.

Can I split up 1000,000 million terms in 5 different termbases? Are quick global replacements inside these glossaries possible, like in CafeTran?

For your full size glossary, I'll use Wordfast Server.

It took Wordfast Server about 4 minutes to reorganize (= create the index of) your glossary with 1 million entries:

Fast! Slow! Feb 17, 2013

That's awfully fast! Or ridiculously slow! In other words, I have no idea what it means.

Why should the glossary be indexed before you can use it? How long does it take to be able to use the glossary in a project? How long does it take to auto-assemble a project using (a.o.) the glossary entries? How long does it take to find a glossary entry when you're in the middle of a project?

Cheers,

Hans (who can ask more questions in one posting than a CATGuru can answer in seven)

Interesting. Good to know that Wf Pro offers a solution for large glossaries. Thanks for investigating this. Is it possible to globally modify the target side of all term pairs quickly and easily (e.g. to correct spelling errors, adapt to spelling changes on the fly)?

Hi,

This thread is an old one but I'm having trouble downloading the DGT TMs onto either my Mac or my Parallels Desktop Windows that I run on my Mac and thought I'd ask here for help. The advice given in this thread is out of date because the DGT instructions on their web page have changed: https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/language-technologies/dgt-translation-memory

I've had no luck getting the TMXtract file to work on my Windows, even after running the jarfix solution recommended here: http://johann.loefflmann.net/en/software/jarfix/index.html#Download

And the instructions on how to run the TMXtract file on a Mac given on the current DGT page are incomprehensible to me.

Has anyone successfully downloaded the DGT TMs onto a Mac recently? If so, how did you manage it?

My aim is to eventually import the TMs into SDL Trados Studio.

Thanks,

Mark

Aren't they offered ready to use in the SDL App Store?

BTW: I recently received an e-mail from a Portuguese LSP who downloaded, extracted, merged and zipped the DGT files for several language combinations: http://magmatranslation.com/en/free-translation-memory
