Im looking for an English version of the old Greek text whose title may be roughly translated as "Story of the Image of Edessa"

the google search led me to find that the translation was done by B. Slater and J. Jackson and published in Ian Wilson's "The Turin Shroud" in 1978 on pp 235--251

however Im unable to find any scans or texts of the English version and the book is also hard to come by

I can provide the Greek version

I could do the translation from Polish into English as I have the Polish version but it would be a translation of a translation and Im not a native speaker of English which could prove difficult as the language used in the text is pretty ancient or old fashioned to say the least

pretty please

How long is it? Jan 12, 2013

Sorry that I have to reply quickly without having followed the links provided, but if the text is not massively long you could do the Polish->English draft as you suggest and then I could proofread the Greek against your English draft. (I can read Polish, so send that along, too.) Would that work, if nobody has any better suggestions?

Alex

The book is sold second hand for 3,49 USD at abebooks.com and probably by many more bookstores online.

I even found it for 1 USD.

its not very long [a dozen pages maybe or heres the Polish version published online http://manoppello.eu/index.php?go=abgar -- it begins with the words "Opowieść o..." and ends with "Amen."]

I will do it as you suggest [ie Polish -> English] and ask you nicely to proofread Greek against English

the earliest time for me to be able to work on it will be in February so that is when I will get in touch with you if such a date is ok with you

thanx in advance

Sure, let me know when itʼs available and Iʼll gladly proofread. I understand your dilemma — the whole Greek and Latin corpus has been translated into most major European languages but not all the translations are out of copyright!

Cheers,
Alex.
