Talent: so you've got it. Now how can you keep tabs on it?
A translator's profile is not a static configuration, but one that evolves over time and changing circumstances. This is a practical approach to self-assessment and language service provider assessment. It will touch on native and second-language acquisition and monitoring second (and third/fourth) language skills, the concept of active and passive languages, controlling bilingualism, long-term profile shifts, and dealing with language loss and recovery. Ideally, it should be more of a workshop than a talk, with practical audience case studies. It can accommodate a whole range of case problems ranging from those encountered by language students to those that beset outsourcers/interviewers.
