Como parte de mis esfuerzos por adecuar la obra para un nuevo mercado, agregué, con el consentimiento del autor, tres fuentes bibliográficas latinoamericanas—una por cada capítulo de los tres principales. Estas fuentes, incorporadas al texto y con sus correspondientes notas de pie, incluyen las palabras del mismo Fidel Castro, sacadas de un libro de autoría suya, sobre la invasión a Granada, así como dos publicaciones de dos intelectuales latinoamericanos sobre las invasiones a sus respectivos países: la República Dominicana y Panamá. Además de la perspectiva de algunos escritores latinoamericanos, incluí notas del traductor en las que se detallan algunos de los pasos que seguí para asegurar la calidad de esta obra derivada, incluido el de buscar las versiones originales u oficiales de discursos y resoluciones en español, esto para evitar, lo más posible, el uso de retrotraducciones, es decir, traducciones que regresan el texto a su lengua de origen (una práctica que puede ser tanto innecesaria como problemática en el contexto de investigaciones académicas). Translator's Foreword
As part of my efforts to localize this work for its new Spanish-language market, I have added, with the author’s blessing, three bibliographic references from Latin American sources—one for each of the three primary chapters of the book. These sources, embedded in the text with corresponding footnotes, include the words of Fidel Castro, taken from a book of his authoring, on the U.S. invasion of Grenada, as well as two publications from two Latin American intellectuals on the invasions of their respective countries: the Dominican Republic and Panama. In addition to the perspective of Latin American writers, I included translator notes in which I detail some of the steps I took to ensure the quality of this derivative work, including that of obtaining original or official versions of speeches and resolutions in Spanish, this to avoid, as much as possible, the use of back-translations, that is, translations that return a text to its original language (a practice that can be both unnecessary and problematic in the context of academic research).
