Although I have limited official translation experience as a full-time employee, I have been exposed to the Arabic & English languages extensively in the work place, school, & at home both individually & mutually.
My official experience is bound to 2 years in which I worked at the American University of Beirut as the Assistant ot the Director of the Extension Program where my duties entailed translating unofficial documents between the two languages.
It did not occur to me that I could put my knowledge & love of languages to use because I was educated with a focus on sciences. Since then, I have had a series of unrelated jobs, among which is my current position as marketing assistant, which I have held for over 3 years.
From the educational perspective, I attended the International College in Beirut where I was educated in both languages & completed literature classes pertaining to both. I then graduated & enrolled in the American University of Beirut where I continued to successfully complete advanced literature & technical coursework in both languages.
At home, where I think I developed alot of my lingual skills, I used both languages, sometimes as one. I was born in the US, but moved to Lebanon after a few years. I then moved back to the US in 2000. I love to write in both languages & think that transalting from one to the other while preserving the meaning & essence of the original piece is an innate talent I have which I would like to start putting to use. |
