Une eau qui jaillit dans un village devenu un haut lieu du thermalisme Rhône-alpin.
Des Vertus gustatives et thérapeutiques recherchées : l’eau possède l’agrément de l’Académie de Médecine et du Ministère de la Santé.
Une eau rare dont l’exploitation a été abandonnée en 1993 et qui renaît aujourd'hui pour vous apporter tous ses bénéficies.
Les Romains, qui fondèrent et fortifièrent le village de Sail, mirent à jour la source de Couzan et furent les premiers à la boire car ils avaient appris à se désaltérer et se soigner avec cette eau bienfaisante.
La légende raconte que les nombreuses invasions auxquelles le village de Sail-sous-Couzan fut soumis ensevelirent la Source dans l’oubli. Mais elle garda toutes ses vertus et sa vigueur. C’est en 1612 que fut re-découverte, la fontaine d'eau minérale, par un médecin de Montbrison, Claude de la Roue.
Au XIXème siècle Cristal de Couzan devint une eau fameuse et recherchée ; le village de Sail-sous-Couzan un haut lieu du thermalisme français.
En 1870, Mario Proth un célèbre journaliste français, écrivait dans ses carnets de voyage à propos de son séjour à Sail-sous-Couzan:
A Sail, il y a une source captée au pied de la montagne porte le nom d’une pierre précieuse. M’étant approché de la source minérale j’entendis un bouillonnement formidable et continu, quelque chose comme le bruit lointain d’un torrent. C’est que l’eau de Couzan qui jaillit d’un roc de granit, tout comme l’eau biblique du fameux hydrologue Moïse est saturée d’acide carbonique. On m’en offrit un verre ; froide comme l’eau vive des Alpes, pure et blanche, transparente comme la rosée, elle pétille comme le Champagne…

white, transparent as the morning dew, it sparkled like Champagne.»
