Source text - English Nowy rok dyrektor Filharmonii i Wratislavii Cantans zainaugurował „Mesjaszem” Georga Friedricha Händla. Wprawdzie rok händlowski zakończył się w grudniu 2009, ale okres około świąteczny to najbardziej właściwy czas na wykonywanie potężnego oratorium niemieckiego kompozytora, jego fascynującej i głęboko poruszającej opowieści o życiu Zbawiciela. Andrzej Kosendiak mistrzowsko przygotował Wrocławską Orkiestrę Barokową. Ze strony muzyków nie odczuwało się żadnego wahania, grali pewnie, stylowo. Soliści natomiast budzili mieszane uczucia. Matowy głos Marcusa Ullmanna (tenor) w słynnej arii „Every valley shall be exalted” rozczarowywał, podobnie jak dyskusyjna forma Susane Langner (alt), która nie była w stanie wybić się ponad grającą umiarkowanie orkiestrę i jej odczytanie partytury pozostało chyba bardziej bachowskie w stylu niż händlowskie, powściągliwe aniżeli pełne pasji, pastelowe i monochromatyczne. Najwięcej pochwał należy się zdecydowanie Annie Mikołajczyk. Jej sopran jest pięknie wyszkolony, giętki, a jednocześnie pełen miękkości i ciepła. Mikołajczyk, znana ze swojej doskonałej płyty z pieśniami Karola Szymanowskiego, radziła sobie doskonale i tutaj, w zupełnie innej przecież estetyce. Nie zawiódł Chór Filharmonii, który w słynnym „Alleluja” podniósł całą salę z miejsc i bisował także tym niezwykle triumfalnym fragmentem. Andrzejowi Kosendiakowi należy pogratulować, bo udało mu się naprawdę dobrze przekazać to niezwykle trudne dzieło. Wrocławski dyrygent jest być może większym wyznawcą Bacha niż Händla, co słychać w prowadzeniu orkiestry, w eksponowaniu lirycznych fragmentów, którym Kosendiak poświęca wiele uwagi. Dzięki temu jednak słyszymy innego „Mesjasza”. Może nie stricte angielskiego i rozbuchanego w dźwiękowym bogactwie, ale bardziej refleksyjnego. Doskonałym pomysłem okazał się też tekst z rzutnika, który był wyświetlany na ścianie na wprost widowni. Dzięki temu czytając nie traciło się z pola widzenia zespołu.

Translation - Polish The new year was inaugurated by the director of the Philharmonic and Wratislavia Cantans with Messiah by George Friedrich Haendel. Though the Haendel Year ended in December 2009, the Christmas period is the most fitting time for the performance of this powerful oratorio of the German composer, his fascinating and deeply moving story about the life of the Savior. Andrzej Kosendiak prepared Wrocław Baroque Orchestra with real artistry. One could not feel any kind of hesitation of musicians – they played assuredly and with style. The soloists, in turn, left the audience with mixed feelings. The husky voice of Marcus Ullmann (tenor) in the famous „Every valley shall be exalted” aria, disappointed me. The same applies to the arguable artistic shape of Susane Langner (alto) who was not able to break even through moderatos of the orchestra. Her interpretation of the score was more in Bach's style than in tht of Haendel – more reserved than passionate, muted, and monochromatic. Of all soloists, Anna Mikołajczyk deserves the highest praise; her beautifully skilled, flexible voice was at the same time full of softness and warmth. Mikołajczyk, recognized better for her recording of Karol Szymanowski's Songs, perfectly dealt with everything also here, in a completely different kind of aesthetics. The Choir of the Philharmonic didn't fail; during the famous „Hallelujah”, it raised the whole audience from their seats and encored also with this triumphant fragment. Andrzej Kosendiak deserves congratulations because he managed to transmit this unusually difficult masterpiece. The conductor is probably more of a faithful follower of Bach than a disciple of Haendel, which can be heard in his manner of conducting the orchestra, in underscoring the lyrical fragments to which Kosendiak pays close attention. Thanks to this, we could hear a different Messiah - maybe not the one that is stricte English and erupting with the richness of sounds, but a reflective one. A great idea used for this concert was the lyrics which were screened onto the wall in front of the audience. This helped them understand better what was sung without losing the artists of their sight.

English to Polish: The Profitable Patriotism of Vladimir Putin's Biker Bromance // Lukratywny romans między motocyklistami-patriotami a Putinem General field: Other
Source text - English With a name like theirs, you expect big things from the “Night Wolves,” the Russian motorcycle gang that’s become internationally famous for its peculiar patriotic events and diehard support for Vladimir Putin and Russia’s recent foreign adventures in Ukraine.
Putin’s biker bromance admittedly isn’t radically new. With much fanfare, he first joined the group for a ride in August 2011. In the years since, Putin has met with the Night Wolves not infrequently, sometimes showing up late to meetings with foreign heads of state, as a result.
Since Russia reclaimed Crimea and started supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine, the Night Wolves have become a more overt political organization, with the group’s head, Alexander Zaldostanov (known commonly as “the Surgeon”), opining that his gang has become a “state-recognized instrument of public diplomacy.”
In March earlier this year, the Night Wolves announced plans to ride from Moscow to Berlin in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II. The motorcycle convoy was scheduled to leave Moscow on April 25 and follow the Red Army’s route through Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Austria, before arriving in Germany on May 9.
Poland’s Prime Minister, calling it a provocation, immediately condemned the stunt, citing the Night Wolves’ support for Russia’s activities in Ukraine. On April 27, the Polish authorities duly stopped about a dozen Night Wolves at the border with Belarus. Three days later, however, Zaldostanov announced that some of the group’s members succeeded in entering Poland, and the convoy ultimately made its way to Germany.
On May 6, after some hesitation, German officials ruled that there was no legal reason to deny the Night Wolves the right to ride through Berlin, which the group did on May 9, when Russia celebrates Victory Day.
The Night Wolves have attracted significant attention on social media, where Internet users flocked to communities on VKontakte dedicated to the biker gang to wish them safe travels, and applaud the convoy to Berlin. Others expressed indignation about the bikers’ treatment abroad, viewing it as an affront to memory of Russia’s war dead.
Zaldostanov says he plans to take his group to western Ukraine next, where he’s promised to restore the World War II monuments supposedly destroyed by Ukrainian nationalists.
It’s not all love for the Night Wolves online, however. On May 5, a day before the bikers got the green light to drive through Berlin, anti-corruption activist Alexey Navalny published evidence that the Night Wolves have received as much as 56 million rubles ($1.1 million) in government money since 2014. About a third of these funds went to a motorcycle show in Sevastopol in July 2014, courtesy of Russia’s Ministry of Culture.
On May 13, the Night Wolves woke up to more good news in Sevastopol, where the local authorities allocated 227 hectares (about 560 acres) of real estate to the bikers to promote sports and “military-patriotic education.” The group is leasing the land on the cheap, paying just 0.1 percent for property that’s valued at roughly 1.2 billion rubles ($24.4 million).

Romans Putina z motocyklistami nie jest jednak znowu taką nowością. Z wielką pompą dołączył on do ich rajdu już w sierpniu 2011 roku. W kolejnych latach Putin spotykał się z Nocnymi Wilkami dość często, czasem nawet spóźniając się na spotkania z głowami innych państw.
Odkąd Rosja przejęła Krym i zaczęła wspierać separatystów we wschodniej Ukrainie, Nocne Wilki przemieniły się w organizację otwarcie polityczną. Na jej czele stoi Aleksander Załdostanow (znanym też pod pseudonimem "Chirurg"), utrzymujący że jego gang stał się “uznawanym przez państwo instrumentem publicznej dyplomacji".
W marcu br. Nocne Wilki ogłosiły plany rajdu Moskwa-Berlin, który miał upamiętnić 70. rocznicę zwycięstwa Związku Radzieckiego w II wojnie światowej. Według harmonogramu konwój motocykli miał wyjechać z Moskwy 25 kwietnia i podążać trasą przemarszu Armii Czerwonej przez Białoruś, Polskę, Czechy i Austrię, a następnie dotrzeć do Niemiec 9 maja.
Premier Polski określiła ich poczynania jako prowokację i od razu je potępiła z uwagi na poparcie grupy dla działalności Rosji na Ukrainie. Tak jak przewidywano, 27 kwietnia polskie władze zatrzymały kilkunastu członków grupy na granicy z Białorusią. Jednak trzy dni później Załdostanow ogłosił, że niektórym członkom gangu udało się wjechać do Polski i że konwój ostatecznie dotarł do Niemiec.
6 maja przedstawiciele władz Niemiec uznali, że nie ma żadnego prawnego powodu, aby zabronić Nocnym Wilkom przejazdu przez Berlin, czego grupa ostatecznie dokonała 9 maja, czyli w rosyjskim Dniu Zwycięstwa.
Nocne Wilki przyciągnęły uwagę mediów społecznościowych. Użytkownicy gromadzili się na portalu VKontakte dołączając do grup poświęconych gangowi motocyklistów. Jedni życzyli im szczęśliwej drogi oraz kibicowali ich wyprawie do Berlina, inni wyrażali oburzenie na temat sposobu, w jaki potraktowano motocyklistów za granicą, często uznając to za bezczeszczenie pamięci Rosjan poległych w wojnie.
Załdostanow ogłosił, że teraz planuje pojechać ze swoją grupą do zachodniej Ukrainy i odrestaurować pomniki poświęcone ofiarom drugiej wojny światowej, rzekomo zniszczone przez ukraińskich nacjonalistów.
Jak pokazuje internet, nie wszyscy jednak szaleją za Nocnymi Wilkami. 5 maja, dzień przed tym jak motocykliści otrzymali zielone światło, aby przejechać przez Berlin, aktywista na rzecz walki z korupcją, Aleksiej Nawalny opublikował materiały udowadniające, że od 2014 roku Nocne Wilki otrzymały od rządu aż 56 milionów rubli (ok. 4,1 mln złotych). Dzięki uprzejmości rosyjskiego ministerstwa kultury około jedną trzecią z tych funduszy przeznaczono na pokaz motocyklowy w Sewastopolu, który odbył się w lipcu 2014 roku.
13 maja przyniósł kolejne dobre wieści dla grupy. Lokalne władze Sewastopola przeznaczyły dla motocyklistów 227 hektarów nieruchomości w celu promocji sportu oraz "edukacji wojskowo-patriotycznej”. Professional tools
The software I have been using so far includes but is not limited to such tools as Wordfast PRO, SDL Trados Studio, memoQ and the Microsoft Office suite. However, based on the client's needs I am happy to adopt and use a specific tool for my translation and reviewing tasks.
