Spanish to English: THE FLAMENCO REPERTOIRE General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Music
Source text - Spanish Los filólogos y lingüistas que se dedican a la investigación del flamenco han elaborado un copioso material didáctico de riguroso nivel que es fácilmente hoy día accesible a cualquier interesado, y el análisis de las características literarias está siendo ampliamente tratado en la actualidad por diversos autores, como López Castro (2004) o Cenizo Jiménez (2009), especialmente para su aplicación en la docencia en ámbitos de la educación primaria y secundaria.
Sin embargo, en los estudios especializados de música no se dispone de un material específico que, entre otras cuestiones, analice la relación entre los aspectos literarios y los musicales. Este vacío se justifica, entre otras cosas, porque la Flamencología musical no ha llegado a interpretar a la música (al flamenco) como un lenguaje, según las teorías de la semiótica musical, y por lo tanto no se estudian los diversos aspectos que tienen en común ambos, como la estructuración en frases musicales o la expresividad.
Translation - English Philologists and linguists dedicated to researching flamenco have elaborated copious material of very high standards which is easily available today to those who are interested, and the analysis of literary characteristics is being widely researched by several authors, such as Lopez Castro (2004), and Cenizo Jimenez (2009), especially for use in primary and secondary education.
However, in specialised musical studies there is no specific material available covering such subjects as the relationship between the literary aspects and the musical. This absence of material may be explained by the fact that Flamencology, among other reasons, has not treated flamenco music as a language, according to the theories of musical semiotics, and therefore the different aspects which both share, such as the structuring of musical phrasing and expression, are not studied.

Born in the UK of an English mother and Spanish
father I later moved to France where I completed my International Baccalaureate
and entered the Conservatoire Supérieure de Musique de Genève, Switzerland. My
musical career has taken me around the world and my translation skills are grounded
in my life experience of different cultures and languages.
My experience is in the fields of sociology,
business, music and general content and I specialise in flamenco. Since flamenco is
considered a culture as well as a musical form, my expertise extends to
history, socio-politics and general knowledge. Since the late 1990s I have
translated books, manuals, treatises, DVD scripts and sleeve notes from Spanish
to English for the Spanish multi-media publishing company RGB Arte Visual S.L,
Madrid and others. I have also translated the sleeve notes for numerous CD
companies including SONIFOLK S.A. Madrid, and written and translated the sleeve
notes for Doberman-Yppan Canada, and GSP productions, U.S.A.

I recently completed my MBA in Translation with the University of Birmingham and currently work with translation agency platforms and private clients on projects including tourism and online commerce.
