Source text - English LESSON ABOUT ORGANIC DESIGN
1-This lesson is about relations between the nature and design. In projects we are able to see this relation is more or less evident. On this vases of C Dresser nature is represented with all it’s randomness.
2-On this chair, Mackmurdo, English past 1800 designer, makes references to curved shapes of plants, extending their vitality. This is the way that brought to Liberty. On these lamps we can see how French Liberty can be decorative and a great mastery of art crafts.
3-From the same period, late 1800, we have also this office table in a wrapping shape. Van de Velde, the author, had intuited that the relation between persons and furniture is not only physical but also psychiclogical. A particular type of ergonomics that will be studied only many years later.
4-Here we see works of famous Catalan architect Gaudì. Those chairs are result of close cooperation with craftsman and they look like zoomorphic or anthropomorphic sculptures. In this case expressive possibilities and technical capacities of wood are brought to the best.
5-Also in 20’s in France with Art Decò style wrapped and curved shapes were in use. This Pierre Chareau’s sofa is covered with a particularly colourful textile, in line with avant-guard of the moment. On the left is a work of a designer of German Jugendstil.
Translation - French LEÇON SUR LE DESIGN ORGANIQUE
1- Cette leçon porte sur la relation entre la nature et le design. A travers de nombreux projets, il nous est possible de voir cette relation de façon plus ou moins évidente. Sur ce vase de C. Dresser, la nature est représentée dans toute son imprévisibilité.
2- Avec cette chaise, Mackmurdo, designer du 19ème siècle, fait référence aux formes courbées des plantes, exprimant leur vitalité. C’est le chemin qui mena à la Liberté. À travers ces lampes, on peut observer comment la Liberté Française peut être décorative et peut présenter une grande maitrise des techniques artistiques.
3- De la même période, fin 19ème, nous avons aussi cette table de bureau à pieds enroulés. Le créateur Van de Velde eu l’intuition que le rapport entre les gens et le mobilier n’est pas seulement physique mais aussi psychologique ; un type particulier d’ergonomie qui ne sera étudié que bien plus tard.
4- Nous observons ici le travail du fameux architecte Catalan Gaudi. Ces chaises sont le résultat d’une collaboration très proche avec des artisans et elles ressemblent à des sculptures zoomorphiques et anthropomorphiques. Dans ce cas précis, les possibilités d’expression et les capacités techniques du bois sont transformées en ce qu’il y a de meilleur.
5- En France dans les années 1920, des formes enroulées et courbées étaient aussi utilisées à travers le style Art Déco. Ce sofa de Pierre Chareau est couvert d’un textile particulièrement coloré, en ligne avec le style avant-gardiste du moment. Sur la gauche est un projet d’un designer du Jugendstil allemand.
